ESP helps Ardent Consulting Engineers boost employee collaboration by migrating its email services into the cloud

Our client

Ardent Consulting Engineers (Ardent CE) was formed in 2005 and provides environmental and civil engineering consulting to both the private and public sectors. ESP has supported Ardent CE and its IT infrastructure since the company first launched, and was the natural choice for this latest IT project. As a forward-thinking and progressive consultancy, Ardent CE knew that its staff – which are now spread out across offices in London, Ipswich and Billericay – have to be able to communicate effectively and collaborate easily from wherever they are. Ardent CE turned to ESP for a bespoke solution that would enable them to do so.

Our client’s challenge

Over the past five years, Ardent CE has grown rapidly. It now has three offices in total, having opened two new offices (Ipswich and Billericay) in addition to its London HQ. This means that a lot of its staff work remotely, and, because staff at any of the locations may all need to work on one project at the same time, Ardent CE needed a reliable, scalable and easy-to-use solution that would allow them to collaborate and communicate in real time.

ESP’s bespoke IT solution

We proposed migrating all Ardent CE’s email services from an on-site server to the cloud, as this would enable staff to communicate efficiently wherever they were – without having to worry about any risk of downtime. Operating from within the cloud also removed the need for Ardent CE to invest in a costly hardware upgrade for its on-site email server, which would mean clear cost savings for our client. We suggested migrating Ardent CE’s email services to Microsoft’s Office 365 platform, as this would give staff access to additional business benefits, such as the ability to use Skype for Business on Office 365.

After hearing our proposal, Ardent CE approved it almost immediately. We carried out the migration gradually, syncing each mailbox with Microsoft individually, to ensure the users experienced minimal downtime. Once every mailbox had been synced, we closed down the on-site server, and, from that moment on, all Ardent CE’s email services were live in the cloud.

Another great outcome

Ardent CE has always been delighted with the IT support services it receives from ESP, and this project was no exception.
