Virgin Atlantic has just become the latest airline to operate from Detroit Metropolitan Airport, having introduced a daily flight between Detroit and London Heathrow Airport. This new route for the airline meant that they were in need of a complete airport systems IT solution to enable them to deal with communications, check-in, boarding and more.
As experts in the aviation industry, ESP’s specialist suite of services for airports and airlines includes everything Virgin Atlantic could need when setting up a new location. We offered the airline a complete set of bespoke equipment, tools and solutions that would enable it to operate as smoothly from Detroit as it does from other international airports.
ESP’s airport solutions for Virgin Atlantic
We provided Virgin Atlantic with a full suite of airport system solutions – including specialist IT infrastructure and essential airport equipment – to help it deal with the high-demand environment of the airport. We started by installing seven check-in desks in the departure hall, as well as two boarding gates.
The check-in desks were equipped with our managed eDesktop service, which supports a number of airline-specific applications, including passenger check-in. We also fitted the boarding gates with our eDCS Boarding application – a simple and straightforward way to validate passengers as they board the aircraft through the gate.
In order to ensure Virgin Atlantic had the levels of service and communications it required – both within the airport and across their other locations – we set up a local area network to link all the Detroit-based devices, and then set up a redundant wide area network that links back to ESP’s datacentre and then out to Virgin Atlantic.
