Here at ESP, we recognise that we have a duty to lower our environmental impact – an issue that is important to our community. We are only a small part of the overall IT lifecycle, so our actions affect not only our own environmental footprint, but also that of the industries that depend on our services.

That’s why we have a team of dedicated volunteers (our ‘green team’) that manages, supports and reviews our environmental initiatives.

Our ISO 14001 accreditation

As a global business that ships new and repaired IT parts around the world on a regular basis, our environmental impact is an important issue. It is key that we have an environmental management system (EMS) in place to help us lower the impact of such business processes. ISO 14001 is the international standard for an EMS, and provides frameworks for handling, improving and systematising environmental issues. Our accreditation means that our EMS is fully compliant with the international standard.

ESP’s approach

There are a number of ways we have implemented environmental awareness into our everyday business practices

For example, our headquarters in Reading were designed in consultation with the Carbon Trust, and feature energy-efficient lighting, heating, cooling and insulation technologies. We also use the three Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) across our end-to-end spares management processes, and monitor our daily energy and water usage constantly.

To reduce the environmental impact of travelling to visit our clients, we have started to build up a fleet of fuel-efficient vehicles, and we also try to replace in-person meetings with conference calls where possible. In terms of our global operations, we have strategically based depots around the world, which mean that we can mitigate and control the movement of our resources. We also have systems in place to ensure the correct part is dispatched every time (preventing any unnecessary returns and re-deliveries).

One of the most important parts of our environmental policy is that our employees are recognised for their green initiatives, which encourages our team to get involved.
